Annular Cutters (American, Australian & Chinese) | ||

I have bought some annular cutters from the USA, Australia and China so I thought it would be informative to do some side by side comparisons of how well each cutter performs. The cutters were all different sizes, the one from the USA is 38mm, the Australian cutter is 32mm and the Chinese cutters I used in the experiment were 26mm and 22mm. Being different sizes means that I am not exactly comparing apples with apples but the results are interresting never-the-less. Somewhat surprisingly I concluded that, all in all the Chinese cutters offer the best value for money. Perhaps I shouldn't have been so surprised because I have had several people tell me that Chinese high speed steel drills are rubbish (I will verify that for myself in a future video) but that their carbide tools are as good as any in the world. The jury is still out on how long each cutter lasts before it goes blunt. Given the way I use them I doubt that I will ever get a scientifically verifiable answer to that. To do so would require running the cutters at their optimum speed and temperature while drilling through material of the same hardness until they become blunt, then there is the whole question of how blunt is blunt? That's just a very long winded way of saying pick on price and hope that matched the durability of the tool. For myself I will be buying all my annular cutters from China in future, they perform equally well for me and the cost saving is just too great to ignore.
